Murashov made the jump to North American hockey in 2024-25 and did not disappoint. His game is built around his athleticism, and while many netminders with his skill set tend to rely too heavily on explosive pushes, Murashov’s positioning is solid. He often finds that he does not need to use his power to bail himself out too frequently. He bounced between the AHL and ECHL all year as a 21-year-old, posting above a .900 save percentage in both leagues. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins had four netminders play in over 10 games for them this season, and Murashov had the best GAA at 2.64 and the second-best save percentage at .916. Both of these were better than Tristan Jarry, the highest-paid netminder on the Penguins. With the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL, Murashov was outstanding, posting a .922 save percentage and a 2.40 GAA. With such a smooth adjustment to the North American game, a challenge many foreign netminders face initially, Murashov has shown that he could become one of the better netminders in the NHL one day if he continues his development. Look for him to establish himself full-time in the AHL next season, and could even see an NHL call-up next year. As long as he continues to develop, he could become a future starter for the Penguins down the road.

Murashov continued his promising development in his first year as a Penguins prospect. Murshov was named the goaltender of the year in the MHL, Russia’s top junior league. Murashov played 42 games and finished with a 0.946 save percentage and a 1.58 goals-against average, which was the best in the league. From a statistics perspective, Murashov had one of the best draft plus-one seasons you could have in the MHL, topping former first-round pick and Vezina winner Andrei Vasilevsky’s numbers of 2.23 goals against average and a 0.923 save percentage. Murashov’s athleticism is his best asset, being able to get across his crease in one powerful push to make saves other goalies would not. While Murashov is still early in his development, the success he has had so far is extremely promising. If he can keep up these metrics in a transition to more KHL-level games in 2023-24 Murashov could be on track to be one of the best goaltending prospects in the NHL by next offseason.
