Jacob Fowler keeps chugging along and performing well at every level he plays at. He got his first taste of NHL action in December when both Dobes and Montembeault could not stop a beachball. Despite a save percentage around .900 through his first 14 NHL games, Fowler somehow provided enough stability in the net for Dobes to take the reins as a confident starter. Fowler is clearly being prepared for the NHL playoffs in case Dobes needs a rest or reset during the potentially deep run for the Canadiens. It will not take long until Fowler becomes an NHL starter, so managers of Dynasty and Keeper leagues should not leave him on the waiver wire much longer if Fowler is still available.

Fowler started the 2025-26 season with the Laval Rocket and sports a .871 SV% after his first start. Nothing to panic about considering his track record, including the eight AHL playoff games in 2025 where he registered a .902 SV% and 2.48 GAA as an AHL rookie. There is a chance Fowler will get a callup to the NHL later this season in case of injuries to Montembeault or Dobes, however there is no need to rush Fowler as he is the strongest candidate to be the goaltender of the future for the Canadians during their competitive window.

Fowler followed up a phenomenal freshman year at Boston College with an even better sophomore one. He posted a 0.940 SV%, which included seven shutouts, and he was nominated for the Hobey Baker. He also won the Mike Richter Award for top goaltender in the nation. The Habs quickly signed him, and he got into three games with Laval. The pro transition, so far, as been a good one as he won two of those games and posted a 0.914 SV%. He tracks the puck well, doesn’t let himself get rattled, and has high-end agility and reflex. –

Jacob Fowler is gearing up for a big season with Boston College. He has worked on his form significantly this year, focusing on lowering his body fat percentage and adding agility to his intelligent game. Barring any injuries, Fowler will likely start all of BC’s games once again this season.

Fowler’s trajectory following his selection in the third round of the 2023 draft has been incredible. In his first NCAA season, he has started all 24 games for Boston College and has put up a stellar .924 save percentage. Analyst Ryan Whitney has recently compared him to a mix of Dominik Hasek, Carey Price, Patrick Roy, and Martin Brodeur — this may be a stretch. Still, the Canadiens certainly have an intriguing prospect on their hands.
