With two AHL seasons under his belt, Ciona continues to play the game that saw him succeed at the WHL level and it’s paying off – albeit at a slower rate of improvement at the professional level. He increased his point totals from six points in 55 games as an AHL rookie to 22 points in 68 games. However, for those multi-cat managers looking for a diamond in the rough, take note of Ciona’s penalty minute totals in the AHL – 82 in his rookie season, and 75 in his sophomore season. Although Ciona will turn 23 in the 2025-26 season, he’s currently on a path towards an NHL team’s bottom four in the next three to four years. He just might be bringing a bit of point production to go along with hits and PIMS when he gets there as well.

Lucas Ciona and the Seattle Thunderbirds are making noise at the Memorial Cup. Ciona is off to a blazing start after beating the Peterborough Petes 6-3 with a goal and an assist to his name. Ciona has great playmaking ability, and consistently attacks the net. His leadership skills are something that has developed as the year has gone on. He was named captain in February and has helped lead the team within a few games of a Memorial Cup. This will most likely be Ciona’s last few games in junior as he looks ready to make a pro-jump.
The Flames selected Lucas Ciona in the sixth round of the 2021 NHL Draft. This season Ciona has been slotted on the second line with the powerhouse Seattle Thunderbirds. Seattle will be a team to watch as the CHL playoffs begin soon, and he will have to be one of the stars for the Thunderbirds if they want to do well in the playoffs. He is currently second on the team in points and has been one of the best players on the team.
