After splitting time between the SHL & AHL in 2023-24, Pettersson spent the entire 2024-25 season with the Belleville Senators. Registering 15 points in 67 games, Pettersson provided some depth scoring for the AHL club last season which is a positive trend in his development. However, do keep in mind he significantly underperformed his second tour of duty for the Swedish World Junior team in 2025, registering only one assist in seven games. In the 2024 tournament he registered a respectable four points in seven games, so the regression at the junior level while being in his second tournament is a bit concerning. Pettersson has bottom six NHL upside at this moment in his development, but is favoring more towards a defensive contributor rather than offensive.

Pettersson had a busy year, with 82 games split between the SHL, Champions HL, Allsvenskan, the J20, International Jr and the World Juniors. He also ended up playing seven playoff games for Rogle BK in the SHL and four more in the J20. The SHL was where he played 29 games and had a goal and an assist, while in J20 he played 24 games with an impressive 23 goals and 10 assists. He had a decent WJC where he had four points in seven games. He just turned 19 in February, so it’s likely he spends another season or two in Sweden and continues to develop.

Pettersson will represent Sweden in the 2023 World Junior Championships. He has split this season between the SHL and U20s with Rogle. In the U20s, he has played 19 games with 15 goals and 10 assists while in the SHL he has played 12 games with one goal and one assist. This will be his first WJC, but he will be counted on to provide the Swedish team some offense.

Pettersson does have a heavy, accurate wrist shot, so is capable of scoring from outside the circles on occasion. I would classify him as an average skater with limited play-driving abilities which will limit his ceiling. Any success he has will be from outworking people and being in the right place at the right time for a teammate to find him open. Last season with Rogle BK in the Swedish J20 he had 25 goals and 11 assists in 46 games. He will turn 19 in February of 2023, so another year in the J20 will not hurt his development.
