Bio

Dynamic top-six center with very high offensive ceiling. His skating and speed are his best attributes that will help carry him to the NHL but the way he processes the game makes one think that he could be the steal of the 2022 Draft.

Scouting Feed

Chris Babos - DobberProspectsJune 2026

Lombardi is now a member of the New Jersey Devils after being traded for a 2027 4th round pick. The 23-year-old totaled 42 points in 47 games in the AHL during the 2025-26 season.

 Ben Gehrels - DobberProspectsAugust 2025

Lombardi has been a shining star for Grand Rapids (AHL) last season, asserting himself as a legitimate scoring threat at the pro level with 40 points (19 goals and 21 assists) in 44 games. While he popped offensively in Junior the year after he was drafted, his 26 points in 70 games as an AHL rookie last year left his professional future looking murky. He has consistently posted strong play-driving results in all three zones and is known for his two-way play and attention to detail. Still only 21, he continues to fly under the radar in fantasy circles, though that will change when he starts to see reps in a Red Wings uniform in the near future.

Ben Gehrels - DobberProspectsAugust 2024

Lombardi provided decent secondary scoring this year as an AHL rookie, adjusting to the size and speed of the pro game with the Griffins. While a sub-30-point season feels underwhelming for a player who broke the century mark and just missed out on the OHL scoring lead last year in his Draft+1 campaign, the skilled forward is still only 20 years old and continues to fly well under the radar in fantasy circles. Lombardi always backed up his junior-level scoring with very strong play-driving results in all three zones. Provided he can continue to develop an extra gear with his skating, which was a concern about him at the draft, the tracking stats suggest that the offence will translate eventually. There might just be a talented bottom-sixer here.

Evan Sabourin - DobberProspectsMay 2023

Every NHL GM loves to hear these two words: speed and skill. When the Red Wings selected 113th overall in the 2022 draft- they got just that. Lombardi is a dynamic center, and his offensive upside has Wings scouts drooling. What will endear him to Steve Yzerman and his staff is his two way play. His defensive game game allows for him to be trusted in all situations on the ice. While he still has OHL eligibility, he did get in two games for Grand Rapids this season producing an assist in two games. I consistently hear comparisons to former Wings forward Andreas Athanasiou, and while there are some similarities, I see a much higher offensive upside. He signed his ELC with Detroit in December and will probably need a season or two in Grand Rapids before he gets the call up. The 20-year old is definitely worth a stash in dynasty leagues.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.
