Bio

An effective and intelligent two-way defender who should see his stock rise when the WHL gets going. His patience and poise make him a very good prospect in the modern game.

Scouting Feed

DobberProspectsOctober 2025

The San Jose Sharks added another young defenseman to their organization on October 16, 2025, after claiming 22-year-old Vincent Iorio off waivers from the Washington Capitals.

DobberProspects

A mobile right-shot defenseman who plays well defensively with size is an intriguing addition for San Jose. Iorio should get an opportunity to build off his nine NHL games played while with the Capitals organization, starting as a second or third-pairing defenseman with the Sharks.

Mark Henry - DobberProspects

There is no need to rush to the waiver wire in your fantasy hockey league to stash Iorio, as he is limited offensively and projected as a solid two-way defenseman providing real-life value in the NHL over fantasy. That said, if you are in a deep dynasty league, add him to your watch list and follow him in San Jose and see how he is deployed with the Sharks. If his game develops, he could become an injury replacement option in a salary cap league due to his low salary and could provide minimal value in peripheral stats.

Pat Quinn - DobberProspectsJune 2025

Again, Iorio was his usual solid self. He had his usual ~0.3 points per game and 1.3ish shots per game. Iorio was not counted on for scoring as much as he has been in the past, but he still played in a top-four role. The Bears were not as good defensively as they have been in previous years, but going from plus 26 to minus four is not an indication that Iorio has just forgotten to play defense. He did not get into any NHL games as the Capitals had eight defensemen on the roster a majority of the time, and there were not enough injuries to get him called up. With one year remaining on his ELC, Iorio will likely be up and down all season, depending on what Washington does in the off-season. However, he can be claimed on waivers, so he may get lost to Washington for free, so that may leave him in the seventh defenseman role or traded. Either way, he is likely a solid two-way bottom-four NHL defenseman.

Pat Quinn - DobberProspectsMay 2024

Iorio was his usual solid and unspectacular self this year in the AHL. He was even called up and put into the line-up for the Capitals once the team’s defence went down to injury. Iorio was trusted enough to start game one of the playoffs, but was hurt a few minutes into the game and remained out until May 22nd, when he is slated to return to the Bears’ lineup as the team is in the midst of the Calder Cup playoffs again. Iorio is a solid option to be a top call-up in 2024-25 and should be on the team full-time in 2025-26 if not sooner.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.
