Stillman signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Detroit Red Wings for the 2026-27 season.

The Vancouver Canucks acquired Chase Stillman along with a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft for goaltender Arturs Silovs on July 13, 2025.

The former first-round pick (29th overall) in 2021 by the New Jersey Devils is on the move for the second time in 2025. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in March with Max Graham and a 2027 third-round pick from the New Jersey Devils for Cody Glass and Jonathan Gruden.

In two professional seasons, Stillman has not made his NHL debut and will compete for a bottom-six role in training camp this fall with the Canucks. He is in the final year of a three-year contract he signed with the Devils in August 2021, worth $2,590,002 that carries a $863,334 cap hit at the NHL level. Stillman will be a restricted free agent after the 2025-26 season. He does not need to be rostered in any fantasy league.

As has been apparent since starting his pro tenure with the Utica Comets, the energy is without question in Stillman’s game. The problem is – and has been – that there is not much else appealing about it. He has shown flashes of NHL-level stick skills and rare bursts of speed and acceleration, but he hasn’t proven any consistency with either. If he wants to make the jump to being a fourth-line energy forward, he will need to show more than physicality and effort. There is still time to be sure, but it is running out. JP Gambatese
