Mesar is producing at the same pace as 2024-25, with two goals and five assists through 15 games to start 2025-26. While he had a decent training camp with the Habs, Mesar is struggling to shake the inconsistency that plagued him in the OHL in his first two professional seasons with Laval. He has the vision and hands to explode offensively at some stage; however, it has not come through yet. Additionally, the physical part of the game is almost nonexistent, so dynasty fantasy managers in multi-cat leagues can focus on prospects with a higher floor than Mesar to secure future value in case Mesar does not translate offensively in the NHL.

The Laval Rocket was a strong team in 2024-25, and Mesar played in 42 games for the AHL club, putting up 18 points. He seems to do better in international play than in the North American game, which might limit his NHL effectiveness going forward. Look for him to improve his offensive output for Laval in 2025-26, but most likely not to the point where he gets an NHL call-up during the season. Mesar still shows the ability to be a middle-six playmaker in the NHL, but considering his size and preference to play with more space, he has quite a lot of work to do to be able to lock down an NHL opportunity.

Mesar has had a dominant start to his first full North American professional campaign with the Laval Rocket. He has looked dynamic, has driven the pace of play, and has performed at over a point-per-game clip. After having his stock drop significantly in two disappointing OHL seasons, it seems a return to professional hockey is exactly what was needed to get his career back on track. With injuries once again haunting the Montreal Canadiens at the NHL level, he could see games as soon as this year or next.

It was an extremely up-and-down season for Filip Mesar in his final OHL year. Starting off strong, among the league leaders in points, and then struggling next to Seattle Kraken first round pick Eduard Sale, Mesar bounced back in the OHL playoffs with a strong and confident offensive performance. Having already played pro in his D-1, his shift to the AHL will hopefully be smooth. While his stock has certainly fallen, there is still a possible middle-six dynamic playmaker in Mesar.

Filip Mesar broke the point-per-game barrier this season in the OHL, but his defensive struggles were still relevant. The small, skilled forward will be a full time pro player next season, but will need to fight for his spot with the surplus of forwards likely to be assigned to the Laval Rocket of the AHL. It is far too early to give up on Filip Mesar as a prospect, but it does feel as if his development has stalled.
