Projected potential

Bio

Defensively responsible bottom pairing defender with size and solid mobility. Makes simple plays to alleviate pressure and makes a good first pass out of the defensive zone. Does not make much of an impact offensively but has a good point shot.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.

Scouting Feed

Münzenberger completed his fourth year of NCAA hockey with a five-goal, seven-assist effort across 31 games. He will play in the DEL with Kolner Haie for the 2025-26 season. The Oilers also lost the signing rights to Münzenberger, as they did not sign him by August 15, 2025. He will be more of a defensive presence wherever he plays, and even if he does make the NHL, his fantasy upside will be muted.

The Oilers selected Münzenberger with the extra draft pick they received by trading down in the first round. The team took a close look at this player when he represented Germany at the World Junior Championship in Edmonton in December 2020. The German defender had a solid, reliable showing in the tournament and started popping up on the radar of NHL teams as a potential late-round pick. The head-scratcher is that Edmonton opted to make a huge reach on Münzenberger by selecting him in the top 100 when one could argue there were a lot of prospects with higher upside available. The young defender is currently playing for the University of Vermont and has four penalty minutes in two games played. Time will tell if this reach was worth it.
