Projected potential

Bio

A calm, methodical goalie with strong positional play and exceptional puck handling skill

PNHLe

PNHLe data is not available for this prospect yet.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.

NHL Certainty
7.0
70% odds
Odds of becoming a full-time NHL player (10.0 = 100%). Draft guideline is a starting point and should rise as the prospect proves himself.
Upside
7.0

Best-case offensive upside (peak season points potential). Forwards: 8.0 ≈ 80 points. Defense and goalie scales differ.

Scouting Feed

George completed his third OHL season with the Owen Sound Attack, compiling a 17-22-6 record with a 3.36 GAA and .909 save percentage. When the OHL season finished he saw two games with the Ontario Reign in the AHL, winning both games with a shut out in one, and only one goal against in the other.

The Los Angeles Kings signed George to a three-year, entry-level contract worth an average annual value (AAV) of $875,000 through the 2026-27 season.

The Los Angeles Kings reassigned George from the Owen Sound Attack (OHL) to the Ontario Reign (AHL).

George was drafted 57th overall by the LA Kings.

His save percentage in the OHL was seventh best in the league, and his GAA sat him 16th among goalies with at least 20 starts, which gives us an inkling to the level of rubber he saw. Sure enough, George was tops in the league with 1514 saves in as many or fewer games than the top ten by that measure. The Owen Sound Attack certainly spent their fair share of time in the defensive zone last season.

It’s a very decent body of work for George as far as the regular season went- he and the Attack were dominated and swept by the eventual Memorial Cup Champion London Knights in the first round of the playoffs- and the AHL sample size is too small to truly value at this point.

He will likely return to the Attack for one final go around before graduating to the Reign full time and battling for a job at the NHL level.

February 2024Our top-ranked goalie at the mid-season point, George’s game is mature beyond his years. His ability to track and anticipate the play, excellent movement selection, and (mainly) perfect positioning allows George to keep the play in front of him consistently. On the very rare occasion that he finds himself out of position, he has the athletic ability to recover. Though he’s listed at “only” 6’1, his relatively upright and compact stance allows him to fill more of the net than his counterparts of similar size. George is a confident puck handler who does so often – typically successfully. – Colin Hunter
